Due to Mongolia's climate, yaks live at high altitudes, so their wool needs to be extremely warm. Mongolian yak down has this unique property because of the geographical and climatic conditions, where temperatures can reach -50C in winter.
Yak wool can keep warmth in, is more breathable, and is easier to clean than other yarns. It is also more durable than cashmere while maintaining the luxury touch, and its strength comes from the high levels of amino acids contained within the fibers.
It is resistant to static electricity, meaning garments are less likely to spark and cling to the body in dry conditions. Because it does not absorb odors and sweat, it needs less washing.
Our trade is fair.
We work closely with the Mongolian nomads to ensure fair trade. Not only is the wool ecologically friendly, but it can also increase the income of the herder families. This is crucial, especially for those herders who live with their yaks in isolated rural areas.
Pure yak down is rare, so many producers mix it with other wool. But the quality of the product is different compared to virgin down. Our primary concern is to keep the wool separate from the yak wool, even though yak is more expensive. We respect this noble and authentic wool as one of the unique beauties of our mother earth.
Environmental impact.
Nomads and their domestic animals are, in a sense, equals as they depend on each other for survival. A decent environment is essential for both. Yaks don’t contribute to overgrazing as they can graze on pastures inaccessible to other animals, such as goats and sheep. Their less destructive grazing habits reduce the risk of desertification and damage to fragile ecosystems.
